We build and run our own products, and we build products for clients. The order of that sentence is deliberate.
Quokka Apps is a software studio in Wollongong, NSW. We design and build mobile apps, web platforms and AI automation for clients across the Illawarra and Sydney, and we build and run products of our own.
That second part matters. An outsourcing company ships your code and moves on. We also live with ours: QuokkaGuide, our audio tour platform, is designed, built, operated and supported by the same small team. Every architectural shortcut, every skipped test, every clunky release process would land back on our own desks first. So we don't take them, on our products or on yours.
And because we've been the founder burning our own money on a pivot, not just the contractor billing for one, we scope client work the way we wish someone had scoped ours. That story is public, expensive lessons included.

On most projects, Tam is the person you talk to and the person doing the work: product thinker, designer, engineer and marketer in one. Before founding Quokka Apps he built software for startups and corporates including Disney and Virgin Australia, across health, travel, chat and social products, some of them serving tens of millions of users.
That combination is rare, and it is the whole point. When the same brain shapes the product, designs the interface, writes the code and plans the launch, nothing gets lost between departments, and you don't pay for the translation layer either. A small senior team around him covers the rest.
Hiring a big team means paying for their meetings.
Traditional agencies put an account manager, a project manager, a designer, several developers and a QA team between you and your product. Every handover loses information, and every meeting to fix that costs you money. We optimised the whole studio around removing those layers.

We use AI across planning, design and code, the same way we built it into our own product and our own marketing: to remove grind, never judgment.
